The pioneering Too Desi Too Queer short film programme explores the lives, experiences and well-being of South Asian LGBTQIA+ communities in the subcontinent and diaspora, through a dynamic and thought-provoking selection of recent LGBTQIA+ short films.

This screening will be preceded by a special event with artists Riz Ali and Yvy DeLuca who will be sharing their personal stories.Riz Ali (they/them) is a queer, South Asian artist, playwright, writer, poet, and Theatre and Performance Practice graduate. They can be found working at the University of Salford’s New Adelphi Theatre, as well as running around being an associate artist with Touchstones in Rochdale. They’ve had numerous publications in queer zines and more exciting writing coming later this year in Transliteration. Yvy DeLuca (she/her) is a South Asian trans writer, performer and activist. She is the author of Tainted Beauty – The Memoir of an Authentic Creation, which tells her story of being a trans woman of colour, and her experiences with transitioning in the late 90s and early 00s. Tainted Beauty is an honest and raw account of what her life was like and how she navigated through relationships, family, acceptance and living her truth. Yvy is also known as The BollyWitch, as a drag artist who combines Bollywood culture with being a practicing witch to create a horror style of drag that incorporates her cultural background.
